DEVOTION: "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."(Proverbs 14:34)

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."(Proverbs 14:34)

"Righteousness” There is much in the Bible about Righteousness. There are two kinds of righteousness taught in the scripture, one is eternal and the other is practical. Eternal Righteousness is gained by being born again by the Spirit, at which time you are washed in the Blood of Jesus, which grants you forgiveness of sin. David said that He washes us and we are white as snow. Eternal righteousness is a reference to our salvation that begins the day we meet Jesus Christ and it has no end because our Savior is eternal.  Practical Righteousness is something altogether different, it has to do with your daily lifestyle, the choices you make each day. It's basically very simple, will you choose right or wrong? There is a line drawn in the sand, there is a right and a wrong. Sin still exists and if you choose to commit sin, you will reap the harvest of the sins you commit because they are seeds sown in the earth. If you do not judge yourself, you will be judged.   "For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.” (1 Corinthians 11:31) The problems that our nation is facing today stem from each generation becoming more tolerant to a thing called SIN. Hebrews chapter 12 says that if you are one of God's children and you commit sin, you will be chastened, if there is no chastisement then you are not one of His children. Mom, Dad, if you want your children to do right in public, you must teach them to do right in the privacy of your home. Our nation is only as righteous as our churches, our churches are only as righteous as our homes, and righteousness starts at home!  The world system has desensitized us, little by little by the music we listen to, the movies we watch, the functions we attend, the books we read and churches being more about "who's who" than the Kingdom of God. We must not hide in a cave but shine as lights in a dark place. God's children need to lead the way of righteousness not cause others to stumble by our double standards!!    "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."(Matthew 5:16)
