DEVOTION: "Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?"(Matthew 11:2-3)

"Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?"(Matthew 11:2-3)

"Do we look for another” Jesus said of John the Baptist, “Verily I say unto you, among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist :"( Matthew 11:11a). We need to be aware that no matter how great we are in the power of Jesus that we are not immune to doubt and despondency. John the Baptist was in prison for preaching righteousness and died a martyr for the gospel of Jesus Christ. While he was in prison he sent two of his disciples to double check that Jesus was the one that he was to be looking for or another. The two went and talked to Jesus and  "Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see:  The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."(Matthew 11:4-5)  Sometime we can find ourselves in situations that will challenge our faith and shake us to our core. That's when we go to the Word of God and read until we have peace in our spirit. John was in prison, some of you reading this are in a prison of some kind. It doesn't have to have steel bars, it can be financial, emotional, religious, circumstantial or a whole host of other things that hold you captive. It could be a prison that evolved from a relationship that you can't get away from, the list of prisons is endless that humanity has built around them!! You may ask, Bro Scott, what's my first step? Do exactly what John the Baptist did, make sure you are following Jesus not some religious rule book or circus side show. I promise that Jesus will set you free from your prison. "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;   And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."(John 8:31-32) The word disciple means to follow Jesus after you get born again, call on Jesus, break out of your prison and continue your journey!
