"But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain."(Titus 3:9)

"But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain."(Titus 3:9)

"Avoid" The word  "Avoid" in the Greek, means to walk around or be a bystander. As the Apostle Paul writes to Titus, he gives him a list of things to avoid because they are unprofitable and vain. The list of four things are very straight forward; (1) Foolish Questions - Some people will ask you anything that you will listen to, but the Praise The Lord, we are not required to listen.
(2) Genealogies - Some think they are SPECIAL because of their status, be that financial, social, family name, religious, race, geographical location and anything else they can dream up. "NOT". (3) Contentions - Some love to debate with anyone about anything, their emotional man feeds off strife and chaos. (4) Strivings about the Law - The Bible has been written by God, settled in heaven and doesn't change to suit our latest religious fad.  "For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven."(Psalm 119:89)  I'm sure the Apostle Paul would be amazed at some of the things taught today that are supposedly found in the Scriptures.  Although the Bible hasn't changed since Paul wrote to young Preacher, Titus, our world has changed immeasurably. For starters, our 7th billion citizen of planet earth was born recently in Asia. So now with the planet loaded to the gill with people, how in the world can we avoid the people that feed on the items listed by the Apostle Paul ? If you will take the time to read the entire book of Titus, Paul was trying to press it deeply into Titus's Spirit to stay focused on his purpose that was given him by God. If you will get in the Bible, get in a church that teaches the Bible, find your place in the Body of Christ, discover  your Spiritual Gifts and focus on your God-given purpose, these items will begin to bounce off you like water off a duck's back.  Let's face it, we are in a world filled with stress, strife and foolishness in abundance, but we have a Higher Calling from God to rise above all of this and fulfill our purpose. In short, find out who God wants you to be and be yourself. Your the only "YOU" that we have so be yourself.
