DEVOTION: "Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few."(Ecclesiastes 5:2)

"Thy Mouth" The Bible has an endless amount of things to say about the words that come out of our mouth. The word "Rash" in it's Hebrew meaning in this text means "don't hastily sound the alarm", in other words, think before you speak. Solomon says that our words have life and death in them. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."(Proverbs 18:21) A word spoken is a seed sown and a seed sown is going to produce fruit that you will have to eat. We call it eating "crow", eating a little crow is not too bad, but reaping a harvest of fruit from death words is going to be overwhelming. "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison."(James 3:8) WOW!!!
We can actually poison ourselves and those around us by the words we speak. We must be very careful about what we say,our words create, because we are created in the image of our creator and He created the world by speaking!! "Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones."(Proverbs 16:24) We can actually speak healing into the lives of those around us by carefully choosing our words and by the same token we can destroy with our words. "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness."(Proverbs 15:1-2). If some people really knew what they were saying and realized the chain reaction that they were setting off, surely they would just put their hand over their mouth. "And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business,"(Thessalonians 4:11a)
In other words, sometimes it's best to keep your mouth shut and mind your own business. It's amazing how much advise we can give to those around us that need help even though we have never"walked a mile in their shoes", it's best to just say " I don't have a clue but God's word is full of answers". You may say, "Pastor Scott, I don't know the Bible that well", I'm sure you know a preacher that can help you find the answers in God's Word. If one is not handy, just start reading in Proverbs chapter one, it's self explanatory. "There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."(Proverbs 12:18). Don't cut your brothers and sisters with your sword but speak healing to them. PEACE and LOVE to ALL!!
