DEVOTION: "Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit."(Ecclesiastes 4:6)

"Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit."(Ecclesiastes 4:6)

"Better".   Life is filled with choices, every day we make choices, even when we do nothing we just made a choice. Life happens everyday, whether you want it to or not, it happens. It's up to you to participate in such a way that you get the most out of life, the best it has to offer. If you read the Bible you will find endless verses that inform us that our decisions have a direct effect on our every day life and our future. This verse written by Solomon is very true, some THINGS have too big a price tag with them. You cannot put a price on peace, joy and happiness. If you think the material things of this world will bring you complete fulfillment, you are wrong. The material things in life may make life easier but if they bring more heartache with them than you had before you acquired them, were they really worth it? We must do everything in our power to keep our lives balanced between the blessings that God has bestowed upon us and the overwhelming needs of this earth. God, in fact, wants us blessed but He doesn't want us to live in "travail and vexation" but in love, joy and peace.  Solomon is wanting us to examine all things before we embrace them because they may bring trouble with them, if they do, they are not God's Blessing.  It could come in the form of relationships, material things, etc...We must filter everything that flows into our lives for our greater good.  "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."(James 1:17). If you allow the blessings of God to enable you to participate in a life style that's not pleasing to God, the blessings will be short- lived because He will not fund your foolishness. God wants us spiritually mature before we are so blessed that we are not blinded by our blessings.  "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health,  even as thy soul prospereth."(1John 1:2) Ask God to mature your spirit man and your outer man will take care of himself, untill then you'll continue to struggle to find peace.
