DEVOTION: "And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."(Mark 4:39)

"And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."(Mark 4:39)

"Peace, Be Still"  In this passage of scripture, Jesus and the Disciples, found themselves in a "great storm" but Jesus was sleeping like a baby!!
"And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full."(Mark 4:37). The word "storm" in the Greek means a whirlwind.  The storm was so powerful that the waves "beat into" the ship. Do you feel like you have been beat by a storm to the point that it's gotten inside of you? What I mean is, are you anxious, frustrated, upset, staying awake at night or emotionally disturbed? The storms of life are real, as real as a hurricane or typhoon, the whirlwinds that batter our coastal areas and islands. They certainly cause us to be anxious or concerned about our welfare and personal belongings. Some storms can be seen from a distance and some just pop up without warning. We can see hurricanes and typhoons coming but tornadoes just hit hard, without warning!  Are you in the midst of a life storm that is beating you to pieces and you, like the disciples, are wondering why Jesus is not stopping the destruction? The ship was "full", it had taken on all the water it could structurally handle and was in danger of structural failure. It was about to sink or at least they thought it was based on their knowledge of the sea. We often make assumptions based on our personal experiences or data that has been gathered on the path of life. We shouldn't base our future on the circumstances we've been through or information we've gathered from life. I know we all need to learn as we go and a wise man does but we should never allow ourselves to be so intelligent that we overlook the possibility of a miracle.  Our faith, like the disciples, is sometimes hard to see but why did they so desperately try to wake Jesus?  Yes, Jesus rebuked them but they knew who to wake! He spoke to the storm, "Peace, Be Still", so regardless of how you feel about yourself or circumstances, SPEAK TO THE STORM!!! We are created in the image of God, so SPEAK, as He did to create the universe. Stand up straight, open your mouth and speak to the storm. PEACE, BE STILL and the calm will come.
