"The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him."(Proverbs 20:7)

"The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him."(Proverbs 20:7)

"His Children". If you are a parent that really loves your children, then you want them blessed, now and forever. This verse tells us in one sentence what it takes a lifetime to accomplish. Bro. Scott, did you say a lifetime? Yes, a lifetime, just because your children are grown doesn't mean they don't need you. Don't bail out on them before the journeys end, one day you will need them. If you teach them that this is a lifetime journey about a group of people called "Family", not just about themselves, then they will understand the sacrifices required to raise a family. If we live to ourselves, we die alone. The word integrity in the verse for today tells us the type life we have to live and impart to our children. "Integrity" = completeness; figuratively prosperity; usually (morally) innocence:--full, integrity, perfect (-ion), simplicity, upright (-ly, -ness), at a venture. These are the meanings found in a Hebrew dictionary.
It's a big word to live up to, but with God's help we can be what we need to be, for our children. We have the promise in the Word that the blessings don't have to die when we die but continue for a thousand generations. "Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;"(Deuteronomy 7:9). I want to start something in my generation that never stops. We must put something in our children's hearts that will carry them through life, safe and sound. Sometimes we are more concerned about what we put in their hands than in their hearts. We need to provide for our children as God blesses us to do so but we must remember that out of their hearts come the issues of life. Our children need to know that life is about what's inside them, because the stuff on the outside can change in an instant.
